Garry Purslow joined #TeamPA in 1986 as a Turner and General Machinist, 35 years later he continues to be a valuable member of the team as our Machine Shop Team Leader.
We started by asking Garry to tell us a little bit about his career at PA.
I started at PA in 1986 as a Turner and General Machinist before becoming team leader, this certainly prepared me for what lay ahead - some major changes within the company.
What’s the best thing about working at PA?
I don’t think I’m alone in saying this, I think most of my colleagues would say the same, the best thing is the people!
Over the years I have seen many come and go, but when you have a good team around you, you really can do anything.
Who if anyone do you look up to / have learnt the most from / find the most helpful at PA?
I don’t think I could possibly single out just one person as there have been so many that have helped me and who I have gained so much knowledge from.
For me, a friendly smile goes a long way, as long as you have a smile on your face, help is offered and received.
What’s the biggest change you have seen over the years at PA?
There have been quite a few changes during the last 35 years including the growth of the Machine Shop. When I started it was a small workshop and it just continues to grow and grow.
The other major change has been machine technology both in terms of the machines we produce but also the technology we use to make the machines.
Dave Schumacker, Operations Director commented:
"Garry’s knowledge and understanding are second to none and no matter what the situation is, he always has a smile on his face. You could not wish to work with a more genuine, loyal and upbeat person.”
