Behind the scenes with the Design Team


The Design team were asked a series of questions which we hoped would enable us all to understand their role within the company. We then asked if they had any interesting hobbies between them.


Overall, what does the Design Team do?

The team mechanically designs the tools & machines for the PA product range of equipment.





Who is in the Design team? The Design Team is led by Tanya Westenraad, Engineering Design Manager and is supported by :


Paul Butler, Senior Tool Design Engineerfocusing on R&D tool design and a recent ‘Exceptional Employee’ award winner. In his spare time Paul likes caravanning and football.


Gary Hartley, Technical Publications – His very nature is comedic, and he always does his best to make light of any situation, whilst asking the questions that often get missed to keep things on track. Outside of work you’ll often find him running or cycling or at a concert or the cinema. He also likes to make fresh apple jelly from the apple tree in his garden.


Simon Evans, Tool Design Engineer Simon is a keen mountain bike enthusiast who also enjoys mountaineering & brewing his own craft beer.


Ross Hodgkinson, Tool Design Engineer - Ross plays the violin and enjoys a round of golf, a game of darts or pool at his local.

Henry Betts Tool Design Engineer - Henry enjoys football in his spare time.


Jacob Tayler, Mechanical Design Engineer Jacob is a big basketball fan and plays for - Bromborough Bulldogs. Tom Clinch, Mechanical Design Engineer - Tom is a roller derby fan and rolls for Wirral Roller Derby. Joshua Thorley, Mechanical Design Engineer - In his spare time Joshua plays bass in a heavy metal band – Vacivity.

Aurel Capatina, Mechanical Design Engineer - Enjoys 3D printing - linux/python automations. Charlie Collett, Mechanical Design Engineer Apprentice Often to be found clubbing & listening to dance music.


Overall, what does the Design Team contribute to the business?

Outside of standard designs, the team also works alongside other departments to support customer requested trials, development projects, bespoke projects and site support. In addition to daily design tasks the team provide technical support for internal and external stakeholders as well as supporting the business on new product development.
