James (known as Jimmy) joined Packaging Automation in 2012 as an Electrical Apprentice. James chose to become an Apprentice as it involved hands on work and on-the-job experience along with classroom learning.
Jimmy said “Being an apprentice at PA I was able to experience working in all parts of the business, before focusing on the electrical side towards the end of my Apprenticeship. This really helped me to achieve a further electrical qualification, outside of the framework, during the same timescale.”
During his Apprenticeship Jimmy was also awarded a High Sheriff’s Award for Enterprise – Best Apprentice Award. The award recognises the development, improvement, contribution, and commitment of the Apprentice.
Jimmy feels that working with and learning from other experienced engineers at PA and seeing different techniques put into practice was something he could not learn in a classroom environment.
Jimmy is now a Service Engineer and won the Annual Exceptional Employee of the Year Award 2020 in recognition of his outstanding contribution and support to the team, his exceptional customer service and first class clear communication skills.
PA Managing Director Neil Ashton commented: “I would like to congratulate Jimmy on this award. As one of our many apprentice trained employees, I have seen him work hard to progress from being a shopfloor fitter into a customer facing role as part of our Service Team. He is a fantastic ambassador for PA with customer service always at the forefront of his mind which makes him truly deserving of this award.”
When asked about the apprenticeship scheme at PA Jimmy said, “For anyone thinking about taking the Apprenticeship route I would say go for it, the experience is invaluable, there is lots of potential for progression and you can earn whilst you learn.”
